Are your terriers really Jack Russell Terriers?

Absolutely! Our English Jack Russell Terriers are a distinct subtype, with their own unique genetic footprint. They have been preserved since roughly 1897 by Irish families who were determined to see that minimal Fox or Fell terrier influence was used in this line/strain, thereby preserving their excellent temperaments and trainability as well as their robust health and unique stature. Our terriers do not suffer from achondroplasia/dwarfism, like so many "puddin jacks" being touted by some.

Are your terriers “Irish Jacks”?

Our terriers are purebred English Jack Russell Terriers from a specific line/strain in Ireland that can be traced back to roughly the late 1800s. They breed true to form and we've never had a puppy grow into a 45-lb dog! We have no "unique" eye colors, such as blue, and no coat markings like brindle or solid black or tan pups, as this is clearly an indication of alien blood within the line. The only acceptable coat colorings are: brown/white, tan/white, tri-color or lemon/white, white being the only acceptable solid color for Jack Russells, English or otherwise. Jack Russells are called by many names these days and it can be very confusing. Technically, our terriers are English Jack Russells from a specific line. They truly are unique.

Are you terriers hyper?

No! Our terriers are not high-strung like the common JRT of today. They have calm, manageable temperaments.

Are your terriers good with children?

Our terriers love children. A dog savvy child, who has been taught properly how to interact, play and care for a dog, will have no problem with our terriers. Our puppies are raised with our children and have been exposed to children of most ages by the time they leave our home at 8 weeks old.

What about cats?

English Jack Russell Terriers are well known for accepting and tolerating cats. Though we personally do not own cats, we know of countless families who do and their terriers get along famously with their feline friends.

What are the different coat types?

English Jack Russell Terriers come in three (3) different coat types:

Smooth coat - short hair of all one length, hugging close to the body of varying thickness.

Broken coat - a mixture of smooth and rough, where there are 2 distinct layers, a short under layer with wispy long “guard hairs”, which are considerably longer and add a more fluffy look.

Rough coat - longer hair of all one length, can be soft to coarse in texture.

While all coat types will shed, and Jack Russell terriers are by no means a hypoallergenic dog, rough coats will shed a bit less than smooth and broken coats.

How big do they get/what size are they?

While this can vary, we strive for terriers who are roughly 9-16 pounds in weight, averaging 9-12” tall.

Are your terriers good hunters?

We do not hunt our terriers, though we could if we wanted. They have excellent mousing skills and absolutely love to go on an adventure in the woods. These terriers excel in a variety of activities such as go-to-ground, rally and flyball. They are versatile!

Do you have puppies right now?

Please don’t call us asking if we have puppies right here and right now, because chances are we do not. We have an exclusive and selective breeding program. Litters are planned far in advance and usually there is a waiting list. We like our prospective puppy families to take some time to think about us, our expectations, our breeding program and our dogs before even submitting a reservation. We want you to feel 100% comfortable with us as your breeder. We want to know that you have taken the time to think through your decision to add a new family member, as this can be a 12-18 year commitment. We will never endorse impulse buying of puppies and we will never sell “holiday puppies.”

Whether you call them English Jack Russell Terriers, Irish Jack Russell Terriers, Irish Jacks, Shorty Jacks, Puddin Jacks, Parson Terriers, Russell Terriers...The Jack Russell Terrier was never intended to be a cookie-cutter breed.

Throughout Europe, the "Jack Russell Terrier" is known as a hearty, working little terrier, of which there are many different strains, each developed to suit the breeder's needs. Some may be bred for their hunting capabilities, some may be bred strictly for their structure, and some may be bred for their dispositions and simply because that family enjoyed that particular look/attitude in their terrier.

Our English Jack Russell Terriers were bred for their excellent temperaments, robust health and their ability to make excellent companions - for those desiring a low-key pet to retire with or an active family with children or a handler desiring an agility candidate.
